Privacy (Beta)
This beta-stage notice describes how Japanese Listening handles your data today. It is not a formal legal policy.
Account data
If you sign in with Google, we store your account identifier, name, email, and profile image through Auth.js so you can access saved content across sessions.
Saved videos and sentences
When you explicitly save a video or sentence, we store your selections in PostgreSQL until you remove them from your library.
Listening history and resume
Signed-in users have a personal listening history and resume position stored in our database. This is functional product data, separate from analytics opt-out. You can remove individual history entries or clear your listening history from History.
Anonymous users may see a browser-local resume prompt stored in localStorage on the same device only. We do not merge anonymous progress into your account on login.
Listening analytics
We collect first-party listening analytics (play time, checkpoints, replays, loop usage) when enabled. You can disable behavioral analytics from Analytics settings in the sidebar. Disabling analytics does not delete saved content or listening history.
We retain raw listening analytics for up to 180 days. Events older than that window may be deleted by a scheduled retention job in production (once GitHub Actions scheduling and database access are configured) or by manual operator maintenance. This applies to behavioral analytics only; your saved content and listening history are stored separately.
Transcript contributions
If you submit transcript corrections, we store your contributions and personal overrides. Promoted community text may become visible to other signed-in users.
Feedback
When you send feedback, we store your message, feedback type, page path, optional video ID, and limited technical context (app version, viewport, user agent summary). Anonymous users may optionally provide an email for follow-up.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
- We do not fingerprint anonymous users across devices.
Account deletion (beta limitation)
Self-service account deletion is not available in this beta. To request account deletion, please use the Feedback form and choose a general message.
